The cold snap on Saturday was a little shock to the system after all the nice weather we've been having. We toughed it out, and were rewarded with some quality fishing. The bite was a little slower than it has been, but the quality of the fish made it worth the effort. The caddis hatch is right around the corner, I'm trying to keep my finger on the pulse as much as possible. The 700cfs flow is a little different, but very fishable. As the weather warms the bite will only get better.
The Watauga tail water has been fishing very well lately. For anglers looking for consistent dry fly fishing this is the place to be. There has been daily caddis and BWO activity. The surface bite has really gets going around mid morning and can stay good almost all day. The morning bite has been predominantly caddis with good numbers of rising fish.
